Service: Diff Tool (SBB Open Source) - Technical Support
by SBB
for Polarion ALM, Polarion QA, Polarion Requirements, Polarion X

The Diff Tool enables comparison and synchronization of reused LiveDocs documents across Polarion projects. It is especially useful in scenarios where disjunct copies of documents exist and the user does not have access to the original source project.

This tool supports both structural and content-level comparison and provides options to selectively synchronize data between documents.
Key Features
- Cross-Project Document Comparison: Compare two LiveDocs in different projects using link roles between work items (Reuse LiveDocs scenario).
- Revision Comparison: Compare different revisions of the same LiveDoc within a project.

- Field-Based Comparison: Limit the comparison to specific fields defined by the user.
- Lucene Query Filtering: Use tracker queries to filter which work items are included in the comparison.
- RTF Link Recognition: Recognizes links in RTF fields as matching if the linked work items are connected by a valid link role.
- LiveDoc Reuse Support: Reuse documents between projects and define which attributes to copy.
- Structure Comparison: Compare and synchronize the document structure.
- Content Synchronization: Merge work items and adjust RTF content during synchronization.

- Visual Clarity: Option to hide unchanged chapters in the generated comparison report.
- Enumeration Comparison: Compare enumerated fields by key or value.
- Report Export: Export results using the integrated SBB PDF Exporter.
Limitations
Only Work Items are compared. Free text outside of Work Items is not included. Uses Polarion backend APIs, which may result in performance issues with large documents. Still under active development—feature set may evolve over time.
Notes
Extensive documentation and usage instructions are available in the "About" section of the extension and through the REST API documentation. Please validate performance in a test environment before deploying to production.
